Welcome Seattle's Subways on the Sun to the Spartan Family

We're excited to announce that we've signed the Seattle indie rockers Subways on the Sun and will be releasing the band's sophomore album Capsize on September 21st on LP/Digital. Additionally, today marks the official re-release of the 2013 debut album The Honeymoon Stagecoach which is available as a free download on the Spartan website and Bandcamp and on all streaming services here.

Subways on the Sun brings an informed and fresh perspective to northwest indie rock. With The Honeymoon Stagecoach, the band "crafted an immaculately-arranged and satisfying debut album that pays homage to both their hometown and the decade in which it became ground zero for rock" (The Fire Note). Haunting rhythms and glistening guitar hooks propel the album forward, bound together by contagious pop melodies. The album sees the band effortlessly merging the dark groove of Silversun Pickups, power pop of The Posies, and tongue-in-cheek quirk of Built to Spill and Blur to create a cohesive debut that impresses and inspires.

Vocalist/guitarist Erick Newbill says:

Being able to announce a release date is so exciting for us because the wait is over both for us and our fans. We encountered a number of setbacks between The Honeymoon Stagecoach and Capsize, and it ended up taking us a lot longer to finish the new album than we’d planned. We cannot wait to get the songs out there.
And as band that is used to doing everything ourselves, joining forces with Spartan Records means that the music will reach so many more people than before. John Frazier is a long time friend and ally and we can’t think of a better label to be working with. As a fan, I’ve kept my eye out for the latest releases from Spartan because the catalog has always been so varied and impressive, and I’m thrilled to have Capsize released on the label.

Look for a new song off the band's upcoming release Capsize on August 1st to coincide with the launch of pre-orders and more!
